This privacy policy explains how Thumbico, the free Windows app made by Aurelitec, handles your information. It covers Thumbico 2.0 and later. The Aurelitec website has its own privacy policy.
In short: Thumbico collects no information about you or your PC, and sends nothing to us or to anyone else. Its settings stay on your PC, and the images you save go only where you choose.
Information We Collect
None. Thumbico does not collect any personal information, such as your name, email address, or location. It does not collect usage data, log data, or crash reports either. It has no account, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.
Internet Access
Thumbico never connects to the internet on its own. It contains no code that sends or receives data over a network.
The app has three links: to the Thumbico home page and help page on this website, and to its source code on GitHub. They open in your web browser only when you click them. From then on, the website you visit is covered by its own privacy policy: the Aurelitec privacy policy for this website, or the GitHub General Privacy Statement for GitHub. Thumbico downloads are also hosted on GitHub.
Your Files and Images
Thumbico reads the files and folders you open or drop on it only to show their icons or thumbnails. It does not keep a list of them.
The images you save are written only where you choose to save them. The images you copy go to the Windows clipboard, where other apps can paste them.
Like other Windows apps, Thumbico uses features of Windows itself, such as the Open and Save dialogs, the clipboard, and the icons and thumbnails Windows makes for your files. Windows may keep its own records of these, such as recently used folders, clipboard history, or cached thumbnails, depending on your Windows settings. Those records are handled by Windows under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Information Stored on Your PC
Thumbico keeps its settings in a single file, Thumbico.settings.json, on your PC. It does not record which files you open, and Thumbico never sends it anywhere.
- If you installed Thumbico, the file is in the
%LocalAppData%\Aurelitec\Thumbicofolder. - If you use the portable version, the file is in the same folder as the program.
Uninstalling Thumbico does not remove this file, so you can delete the %LocalAppData%\Aurelitec\Thumbico folder yourself at any time. For the portable version, deleting its folder removes the program and its settings together.
Children's Privacy
Thumbico collects no information from anyone, including children.
Your Rights
Privacy laws such as the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) give you rights over the personal information a company holds about you. Because Thumbico sends us nothing, we hold no information about you from it, and so we have nothing to access, correct, delete, sell, or share.
If you contact us, the Aurelitec privacy policy covers the information you send.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
If a future version of Thumbico handles information differently, we will update this policy before that version is released. We will post every change on this page and update the date below.
This policy is effective as of October 5, 2026.
